Chard Carnival 2021
Chard Carnival Committee are pleased to announce our plan for Chard Carnival week 2021, now that things have become clearer since our last update on the 30th March.
Carnival week will begin with the now traditional lighting of the beacon on Monday 4th October, featuring the spot the wrong’un and shop window dressing competitions throughout the week. Culminating on carnival day, Saturday 9th October, with a market along Holyrood Street and day time entertainment, with live music, outside the guildhall.
Then at 7pm the streets of Chard will come to life for the first time in a couple of years with our Celebration of Carnival Parade. Whilst the parade will take a shorter route and will look a lot different to the processions of previous years, as clubs have not been able to fundraise or build, we hope to see as many as possible taking part.
Whether carnivalites dust off old costumes and props, update them, or make new ones, we are aware many have missed putting on a show just as much (if not more) than the crowds have missed watching it. The parade will be “for fun” with appearance money for taking part.
We have already started working hard to organise this event, obviously working with local authorities and within government guidelines, to ensure we can deliver the most spectacular event we are able to.
We look forward to working with the Carnival Clubs, Majorette troupes and all performers, and hope they will support us as well.
As always we will be collecting and fundraising for local groups and charities, please visit our social media pages and website for information about where the collection money goes, and all the latest updates including how to enter, donate, or join the Carnival Committee.
